WELCOME!
Welcome to Before the Dawn! We are a Batman RPG set in the universe created by Christopher Nolan's new films. In short, Nolanverse! (We made that up.) If you have not seen Batman Begins and The Dark Knight please be aware that this site contains spoilers for those films, because we don't want to ruin the experience of those two amazing films for you! And be sure to check them out if you haven't seen them, because they're fantastic.
Plotwise, it is important to note that since we are based on Nolan's films Batman is a relatively new concept for Gotham. Currently, he has only faced the villains Scarecrow, The Joker, and briefly Two-Face, and is currently believed to be the murderer of Harvey Dent. That means that every other hero or villain, even if they are canon to the Batman franchise from other media (the other Batman films, the comics, or the animated series), will need to have brand-new histories written and must only be in their infancy here. You must do for your characters what Nolan has done for Batman, showing their journey from the start and giving them a brilliant new modern twist! You can see our current canon biographies for ideas.
We also welcome original characters, though, so please don't be shy! We would love to have thriving RP groups centered around the Gotham City Police Department, Arkham Asylum, the Mob, and anything else our members can come up with! The member groups will expand every time we get enough of one type of character to warrant it, so join us and make your mark on Gotham.
PLOT PROGRESSION
Currently, we would like to see the 'board wide plot' evolve organically, since the episodic progression of Batman films and comics would be difficult for RP. We welcome any ideas on the matter, but in the meantime keep an eye on our In Character publications - The Gotham Times, Gotham's Most Wanted, and more, to see what's currently cooking around BD!
SITE HISTORY
This RPG was started last year after the release of The Dark Knight, but illness and pregnancy of the two main admins made it difficult to keep up with in the later part of the year. Now, we are reopening, and we hope you will help us make this second reincarnation even better than the first!
