Character Name: Alfred Thaddeus Crane Pennyworth
Sex: Male
Age: 69
Occupation: Butler to the Wayne Family
Allegiance: The Wayne Family (which, unfortunately, includes Batman)
Physical Description: Alfred’s age is not well hidden upon his face, nor much in the condition of his body. His hair is grey, though always parted and combed to perfection. The wrinkles on his face indicate the years of smiles, surprise and worried looks that he most attributes to Bruce himself. He has been saved by the good graces from balding -- though his hair line has slightly receded since his youth, it doesn’t seem to be progressing. There are many few (if any) that could attest to ever seeing Alfred in anything other than a suit, or any other suit for that matter. Rest assured if one were actually able to look into his closet, they could find a collection of the same exact suit, a brown or black sweater here and there and a hidden pair of red socks (worn on Christmas).
Personality: Many years ago he was told he chose his career well, as he is brilliantly loyal to the end and beyond. He wasn’t always so attached to fellow humans, but his introduction to the Wayne family changed his life forever. Particularly with Bruce’s father, Alfred bonded well with the family and became much more to them [in his eyes] than just their butler. His sarcastic sense of humor always buts in to lighten the mood or express his thoughts, own offering a light hearted comment to any situation. It took many years for Alfred to become as out spoken as he is today, but upon Bruce’s return, it became an absolute necessity. Since then, Alfred has sharpened his tongue and wits to keep up with the young master and has since found a few more wrinkles as consequence of long nights of worrying and watching the news.
History: Alfred’s history is long but hidden, as he tends to believe his own past is irrelevant to anyone but himself. He shares little about himself with Bruce and is content to keep it that way. With that said, he was one of three children: two boys and one girl. The brother was older and the sister younger, leaving Alfred in the middle to pick up the pieces of his brother and take care of his sister. Their mother died two years after his sister’s birth after battling long term consequences of a serious illness and the short term of his sister’s labor. Having enjoyed eight more years of being with their mother, he felt guilty for his sister’s loss and attempted to replace much of a mother’s affections for her while growing up. While his brother moved on in life, he stayed behind to aid his sister until she was on the correct path before doing anything for himself. This selflessness deeply impacted his career choice, as did the lack of family fortunes.
Alfred’s past after his family and before ever meeting the Waynes, he – as he so vaguely puts it – “worked for the government”. This job description is locked in the vaults of government buildings and the man himself hardly utters a word about it. Within these years of loyal service he traveled throughout Asia where he was stationed to catch a peculiar thief. Over the years of disheartening missions, Alfred decided his time had come to move on to more peaceful lines of work. How that decision meant becoming a butler has never been clarified, but he is most certainly happy with said decision. It took a few families to finally meet Thomas Wayne, where Alfred’s steadfast loyalty was firmly planted. Since he put on the suit he would wear until death, he has done everything in his power to ensure the comfort, safety and happiness of the Wayne Family, even if that means helping Bruce with vigilante justice.
Other: Alfred suffers from cramps in his hands, mostly the left, which he believes to be arthritis; yet another fact of his life he keeps secret.
Strengths: Wit, intelligence, patience
Weaknesses: Devout loyalty, stubbornness
Likes: Tea, quiet afternoons, feeling worthwhile, new/clean shoes
Dislikes: Too much time alone, an empty house, beer, chewing gum
Face Claim: Michael Caine
