Through the years of fighting crime, being apart of superhero organizations and closely maintaining secret identities, the heroes of the Earth and beyond have began to hang up their capes and costumes. Some were in search of a new existence, while others wanted to have a life free of the hectic lifestyle they once led and others saw it as a duty to create and mold the new era of heroes. Settling down was hard for some, but the eventual idea that the heroes of their era were past their prime and couldn’t operate with the zeal or security they once could to the superhero business justified some heroes’ gradual retirement, of a sort.
On the other side of the spectrum, villains began to reach and surpass the apexes of their careers. Some, like the Joker, saw the retirement of some heroes as a chance to make a devastating mark on the world they inhabited, while others searched for a regular existence. Due to this audacity, there was a short spike in criminal activity throughout the universe; a spike that has still not returned to normalcy. After a period of time, the villains of Earth and beyond began to settle down as well. Most strived to change the way that they lived previously, however some strayed from their intentions and continued with their villainous manners as well as breed a new age of villains, in hopes of their rogue driven goals would be fulfilled.
Aside from the typical population growths and changes in governmental regimes, governments and the people governed by them have also began taking a role in the dwindling world of heroes and villains. Along with the villain influenced spike in criminal activity came the new heightened role of the government in the fight against the crime, with the idea that they could handle the violence without the help of the superheroes—headed by Senator Alexander Luthor; in fact the overall belief was that the government could do equally as good as the heroes, if not better. However, heroes were not detained if they aided but they were warned that any involvement would put them in jeopardy of government hostility.
However, the government would reach certain realization concerning the take over of hero responsibilities and operations when threats and determined villains, both terrestrial and extra-terrestrial, begin to descend and proliferate on Earth. Now a call has been made for the Earth’s heroes, old and new, to take action and help aid the government. However, some of the heroes and supposed-to-be heroes have been bittered towards what they were initially vowed to do, help others.
