The Winchester brothers spent over a year trying to prevent Lucifer from rising and it took five minutes to unravel everything they'd worked for. Lucifer was free and Ruby, the backstabbing bitch, had escaped. Sam had started the apocalypse and attempting to stop it would be a suicide mission. Dean wholeheartedly blamed him for it and even though he never voiced his feelings, Sam knew. Their already tense relationship reached a breaking point and the brothers went their separate ways, permanently.
Months later, hunters across the nation are hearing reports of an increased demon activity. Whole towns are being possessed and the demons all seem to be congregation in one place. Whispers that Lucifer walks the earth have old hunters coming out of retirement and joining the fight. No one knows what's really going on and neither Sam or Dean are in a position to tell anyone. Sam spends his days evading demons intent on handing him over to Lucifer and no one's heard from him in weeks. Lucifer has.
Meanwhile, Dean has made it his mission to hunt down and kill all four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Alone. The angels have formed an uneasy truce amongst themselves and have banded together to stop Dean from getting himself killed.
